Home made italian dressing

I made italian dressing last night, because I was getting tired of just olive oil and balsamic vinegar on my salads. It turned out fantastic.  I used the recipe at

I used rice vinegar, olive oil, and left out the water and honey. It’s probably the best dressing I’ve ever had.

Old movies

The topic that came up today was Old Movies that rock. I figured just old movies works, so I’m going to go with that.  Most of the “old” movies that I’m a fan of, aren’t really that old in the grand scheme of things. While there are old silent movies I really dig, like Metropolis (or anything from Fritz Lang, actually) and the Charlie Chaplin movies, and some even after that, like 50’s crime noir films and Alfred Hitchcock movies, and of course, any of the old Vincent Price horror films, the era that I am most into is the 60’s and 70’s, especially horror of that era. Most of my favorite films of that era came out of Europe, mostly Italy and Spain. There were certainly some great Americans working in the genre at that time, most notably, George Romero and Tobe Hooper. I don’t really thing the Americans came into their own though until the Slasher phase of the 80’s. Of course, we ended up pretty much completely ruining the genre, but that’s for another post all together.

I have three directors whose work I absolutely love from that time period. Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci and Amando de Ossorio. That is by no means an extensive list. I also really like Deodato, D’Amato, Martino, Lenzi, both Bavas and many others. I’m also a huge Paul Naschy fan, but didn’t list him with the others because I believe him to be a special case.

Now, I’ll freely admit that not one of these people have ever been involved in any films that would be considered award winning or any such thing, but that wasn’t really important to them. My favorite movie of all time, Suspiria by Argento, while the plot is a bit muddy at times, is probably the most beautiful horror film every made.

New idea

Since I never seem to be able to think of anything worthwhile to post, I’m going to try a new idea. I’m going to use the Random Topic Generator at to come up with ideas. I’ll try to do one every day, and see how it shakes out.

Weight loss 6-7-2012

We kinda fell of the wagon for a while, and stopped our diet and weigh ins.  This week we’ve started back up. I was at 275 at the start of the week, and am down to 271 as of last night. Our goal is to stick with this now until July 4th, go on another break while we’re on vacation in Florida, and a start back up again when we get back. My ultimate goal is 200 lbs. We’ll see if that can happen.
