Back to Mepis
After trying a bunch of different Linux distros on my laptop, I’ve gone back to using Mepis, the pre-release version of 7.0 to be exact.
I used Mepis when it first came to being on my pc, and liked it alot, but ended up switching to Ubuntu when it first came around, then Linux Mint after that.
I’m still running Mint on my desktop, but Mepis works so much better for me on the laptop because it’s the only distro that I’ve found that can use the integrated wireless out of the box. I can get it to work in other distros, but it’s a pain to get it to.
Mepis looks good, works with all my hardware and runs really really fast. I’m the happiest I’ve been with Linux in a long time.
House Update 12/28/2007
We now have two rooms in the house completely finished. We have the living room and the dining room done. I think they both look very good, and they definitely suit our personalities, which is very important.
The next room that should finished is what will be our bedroom. It really just needs painted and the carpet cleaned.
The bathroom is creeping closer to being finished.
The utility room is pretty much done. All we have to do yet is clean up, and level out the washing machine.
My in-laws bought us new locks for xmas. All three external doors, and their dead bolts are going to be keyed the same. It’s going to be so nice to only have one key to get in the house.
I really think we should be ready to move in by April. I hope so anyways.
Things that have happened to me in 2007
- I got married
- We bought a house
- I moved from my midnight shift job to a daylight one
- I found out I am going to be an uncle
I had this idea in my head to write a really long end of year post, but I realized that my life really isn’t all that interesting, and I definitely lack the ability to easily put into words the things I want to say. I’ll stick with my little bulleted list thing then, and skip the verbosity.
Leatherface – Deep Green Beautiful Leveling
One of my favorite songs at the moment.
Perfume can’t hide how you feel if you feel like me
They’re no part of the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
When there’s only so much room inside of me
Like a bin I sometimes need an emptying too
And it’s so much bigger than me when the deep green beautiful levelling
Of everything I’ve seen it washes away
Everything that I would ever say that I cling to
Sometimes the lemmings make sense such total sense
Well I’m a pale of water that only just learned
To walk on the land and found the earth
As flat as it as it once seemed as it has always been
And it’s so much bigger than me when this deep green beautiful levelling
Of everything I see it washes away
Everything that I would ever say that I cling to
And with water in front of me and behind me just these green fields
And how loud it can be reassures me you can’t take the
Ground from under me under me
Adhere to flat earth because I have to
And then I bide my time it’s called my life
And I feel deep blue beautiful levelling
Of everything that I cling to
It’s so much bigger than me when this deep green beautiful levelling
O f everything I see it washes away
Every sin I would ever say that I cling to
It’s so much bigger than me and everything that I cling to
Pagan Orgies to Human Sacrifice: The Bizarre Origins of Christmas
Pagan Orgies to Human Sacrifice: The Bizarre Origins of Christmas | Cracked.com
“Christmas was not, as it turns out, miraculously handed down as a fully formed holiday, complete with wrapped gifts and blinking lights. Rather, it is a rich tapestry woven from countless inexplicable and pointless customs.”
Awesome.
Stuff
As you can see, I’ve got a new layout. I like it a lot. There’s a link at the bottom to where it came from if you’re interested.
Once we get into the new house, I really need to start exercising and eating better. Ever since I’ve gotten a desk job, I’ve put on considerable weight, and I fee like shit. I’ve felt like I never get enough sleep lately, and that is probably connected.
I have an ISO of a new variant of Ubuntu waiting for me at home to burn and install. It’s called Geubuntu and it looks really interesting.
Only a couple weeks until we go to Vegas. I’m looking forward to it. It should be a fun time.
We’re going to Vermont for our anniversary in the summer. I’ve always wanted to go there, and it’s relatively inexpensive. I think I’m looking forward more to it than I am to Vegas. We’re staying at the North Shire Motel which looks entirely awesome. We’re going to be in Room 12.
I should probably cancel my WoW subscription again. Ever since we’ve gotten the Wii, I haven’t played it at all.
I really wish we had the money to just hire someone to come in and finish everything we want to do with the house. I’d like it to be done now.
I have a feeling that the 2008 presidential race will end up sucking like usual. There’s really no one worth a damn (except for Ron Paul) running.
It’s hard to believe it’s less than two weeks until Christmas already.
I’ve been thinking about getting a second job until Andrea starts getting more steady work to help us get by. We could probably make it without the extra money, but it would be much easier with it. I could only imagine how tired I’d feel all the time then.
House Update
As of this past weekend, with the addition of some second hand furniture, and a used, free, but in very good condition TV from my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Marty, our living room is done. It’s an awesome feeling to finally have a room finished. We still have a lot of work to do, but at least one thing is finished.
Within a couple of weeks, the dining room should be ok. There are a lot of things we want to do with it, but right now we’re not sure if we have the money, so we may just be cleaning it up for now and dealing with what’s there.
I kind of feel like we’re at a stalemate with the bathroom right now, because we’ve been dealing with other stuff. Hopefully this weekend coming up Scott (my father-in-law) and I can really put our noses to the grindstone on that and get a lot done. I’d love to have it done by the end of January at the latest, and I think we can reach that goal.
The kitchen really just needs cleaned, and one ceiling light replaced, and it will be ready to go.
We haven’t even started doing anything upstairs. We have realized that we’re going to have to do something with the stairs themselves though, because they’re in worse shape than we thought. The room that we are going to use as our bedroom, really just needs cleaned, and maybe a coat of paint, and it will be ready. One room we are going to use as a spare bedroom / walk in closet, with the other room being a library / computer room / den / office type thing.
We just have to cut a whole in the wall for the dryer vent, and level the washer and dryer, and the laundry room will be finished. I’m glad we got the washer and dryer out of the kitchen, and the hot water tank out of the bathroom. Those give us a whole lot more room to work with in both rooms.
