New age nuclear

New age nuclear | COSMOS magazine

Nuclear energy produces no greenhouse gases, but it has many drawbacks. Now a radical new technology based on thorium promises what uranium never delivered: abundant, safe and clean energy – and a way to burn up old radioactive waste.

As close to perfection as humans can get…

I’ve come to the conclusion that the Queens of the Stone Age songs with Mark Lanegan on vocals are as close to perfection as humanity will ever be able to get.

In The Fade is a particularly remarkable song.

Police: Girl Dies After Parents Pray for Healing Instead of Seeking Medical Help

FOXNews.com – Police: Girl Dies After Parents Pray for Healing Instead of Seeking Medical Help

WESTON, Wis. — An 11-year-old girl died after her parents prayed for healing rather than seek medical help for a treatable form of diabetes, police said Tuesday.

I’m all for religious freedom, but this is just ridiculous. That freedom needs to be revoked when it puts someones life in danger like this.

Updates and stuff about things

Well, I’ve sent out my first resume. We’ll see how this goes. I’ve found another listing online for a job that I’ll probably be applying for this evening. At first I was kind of bummed, but now I’m looking at this as an opportunity, and its lit a bit of a fire under my ass to get something better. If all else fails for right now, I can always collect unemployment and take the summer off while looking for a new job. We’ll see what happens on that one.

Andrea started her long term sub position yesterday. It’s going pretty well so far. I really hope it transitions into a permanent position in the fall, but I know not to get my hopes up. I really think she’s got a very good chance though. She’s an amazing teacher, and those kids should love her.

The bathroom should be completely finished this weekend. It’s almost surreal that we’re finally getting it done. We’ve been working in there since the end of September. Once we get everything finished this weekend, I’m going to take pictures and a video, and will link it all up here.

We bought a TomTom One GPS the night before I found out about losing my job. We were going to take it back, but the thing is so handy to have around that we just couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. It’s especially good for Andrea, because she doesn’t have the sense of direction that I do.

I had myself all primed to buy myself a new laptop before I found out about the job thing. That will definitely have to wait, because it’s not something that I even remotely need, just something that I really want. [If anyone who reads this blog has a wad of spare cash laying around that they want to waste on a nerd, this is the one that I want ;-) ]

ugh

So I found out yesterday that I’m losing my job. They’re doing a realignment, and mine is one of the jobs to go.

I’ve just got to look at this as an opportunity. It could end up being the best thing that ever happened to me.

New Species Photo Roundup

During the first couple weeks of March, several new species have been revealed as new discoveries. Here is a survey of their published images and links to more details about the findings.

Awesome. I love this kind of stuff and how it reveals how much we still don’t know about our world.
